Summary

 

The Medical Assistant II is a crucial member of the dermatology healthcare team, providing advanced support to dermatology physicians. Responsibilities include patient rooming, comprehensive updates of patient medical histories, documentation of visit reasons, and histories of present illnesses. The Medical Assistant II also assists in various office procedures, including biopsies, surgeries, and treatments for diverse skin conditions.

Essential Functions:

To perform this role effectively, an individual must be able to conduct each essential function satisfactorily, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to manage a high patient volume, averaging up to 40 patients per day.
  • Perform advanced scribing duties.
  • Document detailed patient histories, including HPI (History of Present Illness).
  • Update patient medical, surgical, and family histories, as well as medications and allergies.
  • Prepare for and assist in complex surgical procedures such as ED&Cs, shave/punch biopsies, ILK, I&D, among others.
  • Assist with advanced cosmetic procedures, including Botox and laser treatments.
  • Support excisions and other surgical procedures as required.
  • Demonstrate strict adherence to sterile techniques and best practices.
  • Administer numbing agents to treatment areas as directed.
  • Remove sutures with precision and care.
  • Log and transmit pathology orders to the appropriate laboratory.
  • Input templates and scribe detailed chart notes as required by the physician.
  • Process prescription refills and submit prior authorizations efficiently.
  • Operate Narrowband and photodynamic therapy units.
  • Ensure liquid nitrogen containers are filled and maintained for daily use.
  • Maintain and stock patient examination rooms and supply areas meticulously.
  • Adhere to stringent infection control practices.
  • Ensure regular and reliable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

The following requirements are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for this position:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required; additional certifications or training in medical assistance preferred.
  • Experience: 3-5 years of medical assistant experience, with a strong preference for experience in dermatology.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications and electronic health records (EHR) systems.

  • Physical Requirements: This position occasionally involves prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting. Frequent use of hands for manipulating objects, tools, or operating computer systems is required. The role may necessitate climbing stairs, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. The ability to lift, push, pull, or move up to 20 pounds is required. Extended computer use will involve repetitive upper body movements.
  • Visual Acuity: This role requires strong visual capabilities, including close vision, distance vision, color differentiation, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus as needed.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS:

  • Work Setting: The role is primarily conducted within a well-lit, ventilated, and climate-controlled office environment. The office is equipped with standard office and medical clinic equipment, some of which may include moving mechanical components.
  • Noise Levels: The work environment typically reflects the noise level of an office or medical clinic setting.
  • Travel Requirements: This role does not generally require travel.

PAY:

$17-$20/hr
