Position Overview:
The Histotechnician is crucial in supporting the Mohs surgeon by assisting with the grossing of specimens, as well as processing, embedding, cutting, and staining tissue samples. Additionally, the Histotechnician is responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment and ensuring the cleanliness of the laboratory environment.
Essential Functions:

- Technical Proficiency: Exhibit comprehensive knowledge and understanding of histology, laboratory techniques, and quality control.
- Tissue Processing: Efficiently embed, cut, stain, and mount tissue specimens in accordance with established policies, procedures, and laboratory standards.
- Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills for effective interaction with superiors, peers, physicians, and patients.
- Organizational Skills: Maintain strong organizational skills and proficiency in computer applications.
- Attendance: Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
- Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.
Educational Requirements:
- Associate degree in chemical or biological sciences or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution.
- Completion of 60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution, including:
- 24 semester hours in medical laboratory technology courses, OR
- 24 semester hours in science courses, comprising 6 semester hours in chemistry, 6 semester hours in biology, and 12 semester hours in any combination of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology.
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working with Mohs procedures.
Certifications and Licenses:
- Certification as a Histotechnologist (HTL, ASCP) or Histotechnician (HT, ASCP).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Applications.
- CLIA certification

Work Environment and Travel Requirements:
- Travel to additional locations is required. Travel days will vary.
- Laboratory environment with exposure to various chemicals and equipment.
- Prolonged sitting, frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Use of safety equipment and personal protective equipment as provided and required.
- Noise level typical for office and medical clinic environments.
