The Mohs Medical Assistant/Surgical Technician for Mohs Surgery is responsible for delivering comprehensive care to patients undergoing Mohs surgery, ensuring a safe and quality-focused environment. Key responsibilities include conducting pre-surgical evaluations, providing postoperative education to patients and their families, assisting with surgical procedures, managing patient flow, and maintaining accurate patient records in both electronic and paper formats.

Patient Care and Evaluation: Perform initial assessments and evaluations of patients, reviewing health survey data to develop comprehensive care plans. Provide both pre-operative and post-operative education to patients and their families to ensure understanding and compliance with care instructions.

Surgical Assistance: Assist the surgeon during procedures by setting up the surgical area, prepping the patient, and ensuring all necessary instruments and anesthesia are prepared and organized. Actively participate in the surgical process by scrubbing in, handing instruments to the surgeon, cutting sutures, and maintaining a clean and organized operative field.

Anesthesia Administration: Administer anesthesia under the direction of the physician, ensuring proper dosages and techniques are applied.

Documentation and Record-Keeping: Accurately document all aspects of patient care, including creating and maintaining permanent Electronic Medical Records (EMR) notes for each Mohs case. Ensure that follow-up communications and post-operative instructions are clearly documented and accessible in the patient's records.

Quality and Safety: Implement interventions that uphold quality and excellence in surgical care. Maintain a sterile environment by adhering to established standards and protocols. Monitor patient safety throughout the procedure and during recovery, taking necessary precautions to ensure patient well-being.

Patient Communication and Support: Provide clear, written postoperative instructions and ensure patients have an effective communication system to contact the office or physician if needed. Assist patients with ambulation post-surgery to maintain safety and prevent falls.

Equipment Management: Operate and maintain the autoclave and other surgical equipment, ensuring all instruments are properly sterilized and ready for use.

Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the surgical team.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Education: High School Diploma or GED.

Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience as a medical assistant or surgical technician, with a preference for experience in dermatology.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems and Microsoft Office applications. Experience with surgical instruments and maintaining sterile environments is required.
